A Plain English Guide to Internet Marketing

Ezine Marketing…What the heck is that?

Ezine marketing utilizes an ezine, also called an e-magazine or e-newsletter.  An ezine is really just a glorified email.  That’s it.

The difference between an ezine and a blog is content.  A blog is usually restricted to a single topic.  An ezine can cover multiple topics in each issue.

So…What Are The Benefits?

Here are just some of the benefits of ezine marketing:

  • it works best for professional service firms.
  • It helps you build relationships with your customers and clients, something a competitor can’t take away. Remember, people buy from people they know.
  • Low cost.  This reduces marketing expense.
  • Increases lead generation.
  • Positions you as a thought leader and innovator
  • Opens up a two way dialogue with clients and prospects

Remember, interested engaged people are the ones who hire professional service firms.

Will you engage everyone on your list?  No, but a good newsletter sent to your mailing list will still be opened by 25% to 35% of the people it’s sent to.

Holy Cow!  How Do I Come With Stuff to Write About?

Don’t panic!  This isn’t as hard as you think.

Start by making a list of the kinds of questions your prospects ask.  Questions that start with:

  • How do I…?
  • Should I…?
  • What do you think about…?
  • How do I know if…?
  • Is it worth spending money on…?
  • What would you recommend…?
  • What would happen if…?

Every one of these answers could be the basis for an Ezine article.

Here are some other ideas:

  • Write articles providing a list of tips
  • Write how to articles.
  • Write interviews with experts in your field and provide resources related to your topic.
  • Write articles on a current “hot topic” in your industry.

You can also:

  • Add an “ask the editor”  section to your Ezine.  Interactive prospects are more likely to hire you when the time comes.
  • Add a section called, “What’s New on the Site."

What if I Give Too Much Away?

No worries.  Remember, you are still the expert in your field.  When your clients need something done, they’re still going to come to you.

My accountant gives me lots of tips and free advice.  Who do you think I turn to when it’s time to do my income tax?

The bottom line here is Ezines  are an easy, cost effective way to attract new business.  It is also a great way to stay in touch with your existing customers and clients.
